I have been making hats. I have been moved to tears by recent events, watching families struggling to do the best they can to build a life away from war and fear. So I have donated to Save the Children, unfortunately I can’t make today’s march, but I have been knitting like a demon (sorry for the sideways pic I’m writing this on my phone).

Yesterday I posted five hats off to Knit For Peace who send them out to refugees in Kurdistan who are fleeing the wars in Syria and Iraq. I have four more waiting to be made up.
In the process of making them I also created a proto hat which was more like cardboard. I’d doubled up an already thick wool through my uncomplaining Zippy 90. It was so thick it just would not have worked as a hat, but it has made an excellent work bag now called the Surprise Flower Bag.

I have listed it on my etsy shop but in all honesty it is so pretty I’d be very sorry to see it go.
Knitting in an effort to avoid housework.
Beautiful hats & gorgeous bag!

Thank you, very kind. May I ask about the yarn you used for the hats – was it wool or an acrylic? It’s very pretty – did you spin it yourself?

I was using up my stash so it is a real mix. I used mainly wool and some wool and acrylic mix. I have not yet spun any wool but I have a drop spindle and roving and it’s on my list of New skills to learn.
